“The confidence to go, or the courage to stay™”
PlaneWX improves GA safety by giving pilots a robust decision support system: weather briefing, FRAT, and a mentor network. See weather and risk, and connect with a mentor pilot before the pressure locks in. Nobody has to make a tough decision alone.
Soft start: brief a real trip. Work the FRAT. Bring a mentor in when the call is close.

Most bad launches are not mysteries. They are late decisions. Hotels are booked. Passengers rearranged work. The airplane is reserved. Then the night before, “we'll see” quietly becomes “we have to go.” By then you are not deciding. You are rationalizing.
Every EFB & Weather Tool
PlaneWX
This is the difference between a data display and a decision support system.
A decision support system is more than another weather tab. Structured inputs, clear synthesis, and room for judgment before launch.
A briefing matched to your airplane and personal minimums. Ceiling, visibility, wind, icing, convective trends, and how those products evolve as the window tightens. The WX Score updates as the forecast sharpens.
Pilot, Aircraft, enVironment, External. Fed by the high-quality WX briefing plus airport complexity, day or night, unfamiliar destinations, and risk stacking. Dynamic, not a static one-time checklist.
Another set of eyes before you launch. Someone who will ask the awkward question about fatigue, currency, or get-there-itis when the forecast looks good enough.
PlaneWX sits beside your EFB. It does not replace charts, filing, or official weather sources. It does not tell you what to do. Outputs are decision-support tools. The pilot in command remains solely responsible for the flight.
Three steps that happen automatically, before you even open a briefing.
Our AI reads METARs, TAFs, PIREPs, SIGMETs, winds aloft, HRRR/GFS/ECMWF model data, and NWS forecaster narratives, then synthesizes them into a coherent picture along your entire route.
The synthesis is matched against your aircraft's actual capabilities, FIKI, TAS, service ceiling, autopilot, and your personal minimums. Your SR22T has different limits than a rental 172.
The WX Score feeds FRAT on PAVE: Pilot, Aircraft, enVironment, External pressures. Risk updates with the briefing, airport complexity, and the rest of the picture. You get a complete decision view, not just a weather snapshot.
Right now, your go/no-go judgment lives entirely in your head. You mentally juggle ceilings, winds, icing, turbulence, currency, and fatigue, under pressure, often at the last minute.
The WX Score externalizes that work. For the first time, the cognitive burden of weather risk assessment lives in software, not your memory, not your gut.
Illustrative example. Your score reflects your aircraft and minimums.
FRAT turns risk into a conversation with yourself. PlaneWX FRAT uses the FAA's PAVE framework (Pilot, Aircraft, enVironment, External) and stays dynamic: it reads the WX briefing, airport complexity, day or night, unfamiliar destinations, and risk stacking. Not a static one-time form.
You complete this, PlaneWX prompts the right questions.
Pre-filled from your aircraft profile.
Fully pre-filled, this is what PlaneWX does.
Trip Watchers helps, stakeholders see the same data.
This is when accidents happen. Not because pilots lack skill, because they're forced into decisions when the stakes are highest.
The safest pilots aren't the ones who can fly in anything, they're the ones who never put themselves in that position.
Every layer of the decision support system, from raw data to community connection.
A 0-100% risk metric calculated against your minimums and your aircraft, not generic VFR/IFR thresholds. Structured context so you can decide with a clearer picture.
Monitor WX trends from 2 weeks out. Never face a last-minute go/no-go with bags packed and commitments made.
HRRR, GFS, and ECMWF consensus across 3-7 sample points along your route with confidence scoring. Nobody else does this.
Pilot, Aircraft, enVironment, External. Fed by the WX briefing, airport complexity, day or night, unfamiliar destinations, and risk stacking. Dynamic risk assessment, not a static checklist.
Connect with experienced pilots who see your full briefing: WX Score, aircraft profile, minimums. Mentors catch what you cannot see alone.
Family, passengers, schedulers see the same live data. Rescheduling becomes a shared decision, not a confrontation at 6 AM.
Route-specific intelligence at departure, waypoints, and arrival. TFRs, NOTAMs, and icing overlays along your exact path.
NWS forecaster narratives synthesized into regional summaries that explain the big picture, not just the numbers.
Planning a multi-leg trip? Enter all your stops and PlaneWX finds the optimal departure sequence based on weather windows.
No credit card required. Every pilot gets full-quality briefings. After your trial, choose the plan that fits how you fly. Pro Plus adds automation while you're on the ground and when you file.
Every briefing — free, Casual, Pro, or Pro Plus — uses the same AI engine, the same weather models, and the same scoring methodology. We limit how much you can use PlaneWX, not how well it works. Paid plans unlock automation and scale — not the quality of the analysis that keeps you safe.
I priced annual when the app was new. It isn't anymore. This locks today's rate for two years. Grateful for your support — it's why I keep putting my heart, soul, and wallet into PlaneWX. — Mark
For pilots who want PlaneWX working between flights — parked-aircraft watch, briefings on file, and early access to tools still in development. Decision support only; you stay PIC.
Everything in Pro, plus:
We watch the weather at your parked aircraft and text you before hail, wind, or freezing rain arrives.
File a flight plan and your briefing is waiting before you ask for it.
Your WX Score by text 30 minutes before departure, with a link that opens the briefing without a login. Requires a verified phone number.
Your negotiated vendor prices, applied to every fuel stop recommendation.
Your fuel stops get NOTAM-screened, so a closed runway — or an outage of the fuel you actually burn — rules a stop out before you plan around it.
Take complete control of your briefing refresh schedule. Refresh your briefing anytime you want. *15-minute cooldown between refreshes (5 minutes in the last hour).
Eligible for up to 10% off your aircraft insurance premium through our partner 5x5. Terms are set by 5x5.
Early access to features still in development. Altitude Profile cross-section, Route Map Forecast models, and Pilot Self Debrief.

“I built PlaneWX because I needed it.”
PlaneWX was founded in 2025 by Mark Wolfgang, an experienced technology entrepreneur and General Aviation pilot.
After selling his Information Security consulting company in December 2022, Mark retired and bought his first airplane, a Diamond DA40 NG. He earned his Private Pilot's license in just six weeks and started flying his wife and dog around the country.
After completing an accelerated IFR program in five days, Mark discovered the complexities of weather planning for instrument flying. He grew frustrated having to tell his wife, “Yeah, we should be good. I'll let you know after the TAF comes out tonight.”
Now flying a TBM 900 and over 1,000 hours total time, including 784 hours of cross-country PIC in under 2 years, Mark built PlaneWX to solve his own problem. What started as personal frustration became a mission to help every pilot answer the question: “Is this flight going to happen?”
Mark Wolfgang is a Commercial Instrument pilot with single and multiengine ratings, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
